John Warren comments: "Ten riders arrived at Union Hall to cool, breezy conditions. All riders finished. The fastest was Colin Campbell (OBC) in a time of 21:48, a Season Best time. Celia McInnis (ABC) was the fastest female in a time of 27:34, a Season Best time. Neil Farish was the fastest from ABC in a time of 22:49, a Season Best time. There were 7 Season Best times."
Celia adds: The weather tonight was easier than last week, with a light tail wind on the way back. As John mentioned, 7 out of the 9 riders improved upon their previous season series best. Rob Sullivan, in third place with 24:11 (37.216km/h) tonight, has the distinction once again, of being the most improved - this time with a cube-speed improvement of 13.6%! He dropped a minute and 4 seconds from his previous ATT best, and was even faster than his best yet on the easier OBC course. Last week's newbies on this course, 1st place Colin Campbell faster by 37 seconds with 21:48 (41.284 km/h) and 8th place Celia McInnis faster by 30 seconds with 27:34 (32.648 km/h) were the second and third most improved with cube-speed improvements of 8.72% and 5.53%, respectively. Note that we measure improvement in terms of cube-speed since power on a bicycle increases like the cube of the speed (two powers for air-resistance and one for rolling resistance). For your interest, here is a graph showing the 2013 ABC 15km time trial results thus far of tonight's participants sorted by date. What is interesting is that every rider improved on their second attempt, and this is not surprising given the hills that hit you at the end of the course - some planning/experience is required to avoid blowing up on them!
Next 15k TT; meet at Union Hall, Tues., Sept. 17, at 5:30 pm. for a 6:00 pm start. Note the earlier start time, since the sun is setting earlier.
The 2nd Tatlock Rd. cleanup has been changed to Wed. 18 Sept. and will take place from Union Hall at 6:00 pm. With enough volunteers it only takes 1 hour. Contact Bob Woods at 613-256-1874 if you can help out.
